Blue Hills State Recreation Area spans approximately 1,540 acres in Winona County, Minnesota. The area features a combination of rugged hills, hardwood forests, open meadows, and multiple small lakes and wetlands. This landscape provides habitat to a variety of wildlife species including white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, and numerous songbirds. The region’s geology includes limestone bluffs and rolling hills formed by ancient glacial activity. The recreation area was established to preserve these natural features while offering outdoor activities such as hiking, mountain biking, fishing, camping, and horseback riding. There are more than 13 miles of trails that meander through the park’s diverse terrain, offering scenic views and challenging routes for all skill levels.
